Enjoyed my quiet day today. Woke late and Andy made a breakfast of eggs and avocado and an excellent coffee. Heaven. Then I sat on the back deck enjoying the lovely view of the river while I called Mark, and the family came out for a group hello. He loved that. Later, Andy and Leire took me for a walk along the river and out to the town and beach. Such a beautiful area! Still unseasonably hot, so people were swimming. Andy made Risotto for a late lunch at 4, then he and his son Paul went to an Athletic game (the Basque soccer club) while Leire, Maia (daughter) and I stayed here to have a quiet evening.
My body is suffering a little. I have an ache across my left lower back and down to behind my knee. Mark thinks it might be my ITBS, so I’m trying to stretch it out properly today. I notice that I have a bruise across my entire lower back. I’ll definitely be in bed very early tonight. Tomorrow the weather will be cooler again and I’m in for a week or so of relatively flat terrain - hilly, not mountainous - so less strenuous walking, hopefully. I am curious to see how my pack feels after dropping the sleeping bag, my notebook, and the bike light (that I brought in place of a headlamp).
Regarding pain: I have been told by others who have walked previous Caminos that everyone generally has something that hurts most of the time. It’s part of the experience. As in life. So on I’ll go.
